Tap water in Germany is perfectly safe to drink. Bottled water is popular, whereby sparkling water, Mineralwasser, is carbonated, still water, Stilles Wasser, is not. A local champion brew famous to the region has long been a rich, dark beer known as old beer, Altbier.

Another popular drink in Neuss and elsewhere in Germany is a blend of apple juice and sparkling water, Apfelschorle. Fruit and vegetable juices are also highly popular.
